
Role of Manager in an Organization
A Manager is responsible for planning and directing the work o group of individuals, supervisors the performance and taking corrective action when necessary for accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives.
A Role is an organized set of behaviour.
Roles of Manager:
Interpersonal Roles: The interpersonal roles link all managerial work together. Interpersonal roles cover the relationship that a manger has to have with others. There are three interpersonal roles and they are:
Figurehead Role: The manger represents the organization in all matters. The top manages represent the company legally and socially, the supervisors represent the work group to higher management and higher management to the work group.
Liaison Role: The manger interacts with peers and people outside the organization. The top-level manger uses the liaison role to gain favour and information while supervisors to maintain the routine flow.
The Leader Role: It defines the relationships between the manger and the employees. Manager has to bring together the needs of the organization and those of individuals under their command.
Informational Roles: The informational roles ensure that information is provided. Three informational roles are concerned with informational roles. They are:
Monitor Role: The Manager receives and collects information about the operations of an enterprise. A manger is an important figure in monitoring what goes on in the organization.
Disseminator Role: The manager transmits special information into the organization. The manger receives and transmits information from outside the organization.
Spoken person Role: The manger receives and transmits information to outside the organization.
Decisional Roles: Crucial part of management or managerial activity is decision making. Four roles are concerned with decision making and are as follows:
Entrepreneur Role: The manager initiates change, new projects, identify new ideas, delegates ideas responsibility to others.
Resources Allocator Role: The manger is responsible of deciding who gets resources. Manger has to make decision about the allocation of money, people, equipment, time etc.
Disturbance Handler Role: The manger deals with the threats to the organization. Manager has to make decisions which arise from events beyond their control an unpredicted.
Negotiator Role: The manager negotiates on behalf of the organization. The top manger makes the decision about the organization as a whole, while the supervisor makes decision about his or her particular work unit.
